Eannatto 150+ (Annatto Tocotrienol / DeltaGold™ + GG-Gold®)

What Is It?

Eannatto 150+ is a convenient two-in-one capsule delivering 150 mg of DeltaGold™ annatto tocotrienol and 75 mg of GG-Gold® geranylgeraniol in a single softgel. The tocotrienol component is composed exclusively of delta- and gamma-tocotrienol, with no alpha-tocopherol (standard vitamin E), which is clinically important because alpha-tocopherol is known to interfere with tocotrienol absorption and activity (see the important note below).

Tocotrienols are a potent form of vitamin E that differ structurally from tocopherols in ways that give them far greater antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-modulating and neuroprotective properties. Geranylgeraniol (GG) is a key compound in the mevalonate pathway that supports muscle integrity, bone health, energy production, and CoQ10 synthesis, making this combination particularly powerful for whole-body cell protection.

For higher therapeutic doses, Eannatto 150+ capsules can be supplemented with additional products as needed:

  • If a higher tocotrienol dose is required (e.g., 600 mg/day for an established chronic condition), supplement with Eannatto Vitamin E Tocotrienol 300 mg capsules to reach your target dose without taking an excessive number of Eannatto 150+ capsules.

  • If a higher geranylgeraniol dose is required (e.g., 300 mg/day for osteoporosis or statin-associated myopathy), supplement with GG-Essential (150 mg GG per capsule) to reach your target GG dose independently.

Your meal must contain fat. Tocotrienols and GG are both fat-soluble and require dietary fat for absorption. A meal containing olive oil, avocado, fish, nuts, eggs, or full-fat dairy is ideal. Do not take on an empty stomach.

When to Take It - The Evening Meal

For best results, take Eannatto 150+ with your evening meal (dinner).

This recommendation comes from two converging sources of evidence:

  1. Biochemical evidence: Tocotrienols work in part by suppressing HMG-CoA reductase, the same liver enzyme that statins target to lower cholesterol. This enzyme is most active overnight during fasting, which means taking tocotrienols in the evening maximises their effect on cholesterol metabolism while you sleep. This is the same reason short-acting statins are prescribed at bedtime.

  2. Expert recommendation: Professor Michael Mathai of Victoria University, who has studied tocotrienols for over 20 years and co-authored the peer-reviewed paper "Revisiting the Therapeutic Potential of Tocotrienol" (2022), specifically recommends the evening meal because tocotrienols benefit liver processes that are most active during sleep.

Your meal must contain fat. Tocotrienols are fat-soluble and require dietary fat for absorption. A meal containing olive oil, avocado, fish, nuts, eggs, or full-fat dairy is ideal. Do not take on an empty stomach.

Eannatto 150+ Dosage Guidelines by Health Goal

The correct dose depends on your health goal. All doses should be taken with fat-containing meals as described above.

As a general guide

  • For healthy persons seeking cell protection - Take one capsule (150 mg) of Eannatto 150+ daily with the evening meal containing fats.

  • For those seeking treatment of a known disease - Start with one capsule (150 mg) twice a day, one with breakfast and one with dinner. Both meals need to contain fats for better absorption.

Note on body weight

Clinical dosing is generally based on an average adult body weight of approximately 70 kg. Individuals significantly above this weight may benefit from proportionally higher doses. Discuss with your healthcare practitioner.

Note on splitting doses

For doses above 300 mg/day, divide capsules across two or three meals rather than taking them all at once. Up to 300 mg per meal is well absorbed.

Evidence Behind the Dosages

Annatto tocotrienol has been the subject of multiple rigorous human clinical trials:
  • Cholesterol reduction: A dose-response clinical trial found that 250 mg/day decreased total cholesterol by 15%, LDL cholesterol by 18%, and triglycerides by 14% within 4 weeks.

  • Bone health: A double-blind RCT in postmenopausal women with osteopenia used 300 mg and 600 mg/day for 12 weeks, showing decreased bone resorption markers and improved bone turnover at both doses.

  • Fatty liver disease (NAFLD): A 24-week randomised controlled trial in 71 NAFLD patients using 600 mg/day (split as 300 mg twice daily) demonstrated significant improvements in liver enzyme levels and hepatic steatosis.

  • Safety: Doses up to 600 mg/day for 12 weeks have been confirmed safe for liver and kidney function. Clinical trial data documents safe use at 900 mg/day for up to 24 months.

⚠️ Important! Do Not Take with Alpha-Tocopherol (Standard Vitamin E)

This is one of the most critical points on this page.

Alpha-tocopherol, the form of vitamin E found in most multivitamins and standard vitamin E supplements, blocks the absorption of tocotrienols, induces their breakdown and prevents their storage in the liver and fatty tissue. Taking both together can significantly undermine the therapeutic benefit of Eannatto 150+.

What this means for you:

  • Dietary alpha-tocopherol from normal food (e.g., nuts, seeds, vegetable oils) at typical food amounts is not a concern and will not cause significant interference.

  • Supplemental alpha-tocopherol from multivitamins, standard vitamin E capsules, or any supplement listing "alpha-tocopherol" or "d-alpha-tocopherol" on the label should be avoided at the same time as Eannatto or Eannatto 150+.

  • ⏱️ If you take a multivitamin or vitamin E supplement containing alpha-tocopherol, separate it from Eannatto and Eannatto 150+ by at least 6 hours (e.g., take your multivitamin in the morning and Eannatto 150+ with dinner).

Safety, Precautions & Contraindications

Annatto tocotrienol has an excellent safety record in clinical trials. However, please read the following:
  • Blood thinners (anticoagulants): Tocotrienols have mild anticoagulant properties. If you take warfarin (Coumadin), aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), or other blood-thinning medications, consult your GP before starting Eannatto 150+.

  • Surgery: Discontinue use at least 2 weeks before any scheduled surgery due to mild blood-thinning effects.

  • Diabetes: Tocotrienols may mildly lower blood glucose. If you have diabetes or take blood sugar-lowering medications, monitor your glucose levels when beginning supplementation.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Insufficient safety data exists for use during pregnancy or lactation. Do not use unless directed by your healthcare practitioner.

  • Storage: Stable at room temperature for at least 3 years. Refrigeration is not required.

GG-Essential (Geranylgeraniol / GG-Gold®)

What Is It?

GG-Essential delivers 150 mg of geranylgeraniol (GG) per softgel capsule, sourced from annatto (GG-Gold®). Geranylgeraniol is a naturally occurring compound in the mevalonate biochemical pathway — the same pathway that produces cholesterol, CoQ10, and other vital biological molecules.

GG plays a central role in muscle maintenance, bone health, energy production, hormone synthesis, and mitochondrial function. It is the obligatory precursor to CoQ10 in the body, meaning that your cells use GG to produce CoQ10 endogenously

When to Take It

Take GG-Essential with any main meal that contains dietary fat (e.g., olive oil, avocado, nuts, eggs, fish, dairy). Fat is required for absorption of this fat-soluble compound.

If you are also taking Eannatto 150+, it is perfectly fine and convenient, to take both with your evening meal together. There is no known interference between tocotrienols and geranylgeraniol..

GG-Essential Dosage Guidelines by Health Goal

Evidence Behind the Dosages

  • Statin-associated myopathy: Statins block the mevalonate pathway, depleting not only cholesterol but also CoQ10, dolichol and geranylgeraniol, all of which are essential for muscle cell integrity and energy production. GG supplementation has been shown to restore muscle function in statin-impaired cells, reducing statin-induced muscle fibre loss. Importantly, GG does not reduce the cholesterol-lowering efficacy of statins. The approximate human dose to counteract statin-induced muscle depletion is 150–170 mg/day for a 70 kg person.

  • Testosterone/hormone support: An 8-week dose-escalation randomised controlled trial in 66 healthy men (aged 30-49) used 150 mg/day for 4 weeks followed by 300 mg/day for 4 weeks, confirming safety and demonstrating increased testosterone levels.

  • Bone health: GG is a precursor to vitamin K2 (specifically MK-4), which directs calcium into bone rather than arteries. Dr Barrie Tan recommends 150 mg/day for osteopenia and 300 mg/day for osteoporosis, consistent with preclinical and clinical evidence.

  • CoQ10 production: Because GG is the precursor to CoQ10 in the mevalonate pathway, GG supplementation supports endogenous CoQ10 synthesis — which may be more physiologically effective than exogenous CoQ10 supplementation, particularly for statin users whose CoQ10 production is chemically blocked at a step upstream of GG.

  • Safety: Animal studies found no adverse effects at doses equivalent to several times the human clinical dose. Human trials at 150–300 mg/day showed no adverse alterations in liver enzymes, metabolic panels, blood chemistry, or haematology. A formal toxicological review confirmed no mutagenicity or genotoxic activity.

Safety & Precautions

GG-Essential has an excellent safety profile:
  • No known serious adverse effects at clinical doses (150–300 mg/day)

  • No known drug interactions at clinical doses; however, consult your GP if you take prescription medications

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding in the absence of specific medical guidance

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take Eannatto 150+ and GG-Essential together?
Yes. These two compounds are complementary and can be taken together with the same evening meal. Many people combine them for broader coverage of antioxidant protection, muscle health, bone health, and metabolic support.

Do I need to take them every day?
Yes, consistent daily use is recommended. Both compounds are fat-soluble and accumulate in tissues over time. Clinical trials showing benefits used daily supplementation across 8–24 weeks.

What kind of fats should my meal contain?
Any healthy dietary fat is sufficient, olive oil (in a salad dressing or cooking), avocado, nuts, seeds, eggs, full-fat dairy, oily fish (salmon, sardines), or a handful of almonds. You do not need a heavy meal, even a small amount of fat is sufficient to trigger bile production and enable fat-soluble absorption.

Can I take these with a statin?
Yes, Eannatto Tocotrienol, Eannatto 150+ and GG-Essential are all compatible with statin use. GG in particular is specifically recommended for statin users to help restore mevalonate pathway by-products that statins deplete. Neither compound reduces a statin's ability to lower cholesterol. Always inform your GP that you are taking these supplements.

What if I miss a dose?
Take it with your next fat-containing meal. Do not double up.

Can children take these supplements?
These products are formulated for adults. Consult a paediatrician before giving any of these products to children.
